Rhode Island Fishing Report
The Frances Fleet in Point Judith has been moving around and working some rockpiles closer to the island, and is finding a good number of keeper cod, along with plenty of shorts coming over the rail. The weather hasn’t cooperated as much as we’d like this week, but we should be getting close to seeing some prolonged spring-like weather. Be sure to check with the office for updates on sailing days and times.
Dustin, at Rhode Island Kayak Fishing Adventures told me that the largemouth bite has been very consistent, despite the weather not warming as quickly as we’d like. Large glidebaits, chatterbaits, jigs and jerkbaits have been the most consistent producers of big bass.

Trout fishing has been very consistent in Massachusetts and Connecticut, while the Rhode Island opener is right around the corner. Dustin is currently booking kayak and shore fishing trips for the 2022 upcoming season, so be sure to book asap while there is still an abundance of available dates.
Big Bear Hunting and Fishing has seen an increase in largemouth bass interest from anglers as the weather has warmed up. The warmer days have started to bring fish into the shallows, and they have been willing to take live bait, along with several artificial offerings. Just a reminder, the shop will be teaching a reel cleaning class on Thursday April 14th, and they are still offering all their remaining ice fishing gear at 20% off through March.
Fishing Forecast
Spring is officially here, although it may not feel like it when you step outside. Despite the cooler temperatures, the spring fishing across the northeast is steadily improving. Connecticut trout fishing has been excellent, with the lakes and ponds continuing to get hearty stockings. Other freshwater options include panfish, largemouth, pre-spawn pike and carp, all of which should just continue to improve in the coming days/weeks. Holdover striped bass also took a step forward in tidal rivers across Rhode Island and CT this week, with multiple reports of steady action and a few pods of river herring undoubtedly starting to show up. If it’s a bit too cold to get out and fish this weekend, you can head to Mohegan Sun and check out the Connecticut Fishing Outdoor Show that will be happening from Friday through Sunday.
