The states stocking efforts are in full swing stocking waters in southern Maine for anglers to target through the fall and early winter. The state allows year round and extended seasons on many bodies of water in the southern part of the state. October and November can provide some of the best trout fishing of the yea. A rulebook, Maine Atlas and the up to date stocking report can lead you to some awesome put and take fisheries. A solid selection of medium to small nymphs is a must have when targeting these fall fish. Occasionally you can find fish in the afternoons on BWO’s so I never leave the house without a few dozen blue wing olive emergers and dries. Most of the time these pressured stocked fish are pickier than wild fish so downsizing and changing flies until you find something that works is key.

The On The Water staff is made up of experienced anglers from across the Northeast who fish local waters year-round. The team brings firsthand, on-the-water experience and regional knowledge to coverage of Northeast fisheries, techniques, seasonal patterns, regulations, and conservation.

    Here’s a little repot:
Maine should still have keeper bass and plenty of schoolies. This year has had a ton of 18-20″ fish. Use small soft plastics, jigs and kastmasters on outgoing tides at river mouths. Fish these same spots at dawn, dusk and nighttime with chunks, clams and eels for bigger bass.

NH-Fish still around in the mouth of the Piscat. Lots of tinker mackerel around 2kr and this is your best shot for a big bass along the Rye rock piles, Hampton beaches, and mouth of Hampton Harbor.

Around Plum Island (go to surfland’s report)

    Freshwater-NH
Not many people fishing but big bass are fattening up for the winter. Find bright green milfoil or other aquatic vegetation that will hold bait. Use live bait, jigs, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Could be your biggest bass of the season.

Reg. Change* Salmon/Laker managed large NH lakes are open for fishing this Fall. (Historically closed to all fishing after Sept. 30th)
-Fact-check this report by reading the regulation book, call your local NH F&G Officer, or e-mail. They’ll point you in the right direction, if you ask the right questions!

Go to your local tackle shop. Why?
Suds ‘n Soda, KTP, Aj’s Bait and Tackle, Surfland Bait and Tackle have been around for a long time. They know what they’re talking about, have what you need, and will help you catch more fish.

    Tight lines,

In regards to Winni, MErrymeeting, Squam, and other lake trout/salmon managed lakes it is illegal to retain any trout, lake trout, lake whitefish, or salmon.

However, you can freely target bass, white perch, yellow perch and sunfish.

What does this mean to me?

New fishing opportunities! Get out there and post some pictures (can’t catch ’em for you)

3rd week in a row without any report? What gives?

Fished Lake Winni yesterday, in spite of the cold front & full moon we did manage a handful of smallmouth bass, a couple of small ones and the rest were decent fish. season isn’t done yet.
