New Hampshire and Maine Fishing Report - October 8, 2015

New Hampshire and Maine Fishing Report will be on hold until the begin of ice fishing season.

Due to the slow fishing conditions in the NH/VT/ME region, our weekly report will be on hold until the beginning of ice fishing season.

The On The Water staff is made up of experienced anglers from across the Northeast who fish local waters year-round. The team brings firsthand, on-the-water experience and regional knowledge to coverage of Northeast fisheries, techniques, seasonal patterns, regulations, and conservation.

Slow fishing conditions!?! Not in NH…this past Monday had a wonderful evening catching smallmouth bass and jumbo yellow perch whilst fishing from shore.

What were you using for bait? Were visiting lakes region and had no luck yesterday with lures…..

I think “trout salmon managed ” bodies of water are closed till 4-1-16 to all fishing . Such as Winnisquam & Winnipesaukee . But not Winona .
But trout ponds remain open till the 15th . Power bait yellow/green , worms or small spinners .
Smaller lakes and rivers remain open year round generally .

NH Rules: Designated Lake Trout & Salmon lakes are open except closed to the taking of lake trout, salmon, brook, brown, rainbow trout, and whitefish from 10/1- 12/31.

This time of year it is good to use the classics that imitate baitfish such as rappalas.

You must not be much of a fisherman. The crappie wont even be hitting hard until the water temp. reaches the lower 50s. The bay Pollock are hitting just fine and try them smoked. I think you have a bunch of lazy writers. Last weeks report was sick.

You need someone else to do this area’s reporting. This person obviously is not into it. There were times this year when the report would not get updated for a couple of weeks. Now they just don’t bother. That’s ridiculous with the southern migration beginning.

Why don’t you just call this report On the Salt Fishing Report. You are totally geared to the salt fishing and omit the freshwater fisherman almost exclusively. Very disappointed in the sight. There are other aspects of fishing here in new England that a lot of us out here want to read about and use as a guide before hooking up and travelling distances to enjoy THE OTHER ASPECTS of angling. Frustrated again , wont waste my time with this sight, there are other fish out there besides striper, tuna and flounder…..

    Do our own report ….

Jay from the lakes region says . It’s not getting any warmer so get out there and get a few for your freezer ! Trout ponds will be closing , maybe bag a big one . I figure fish should be feeding pretty aggressively . I want to fish till its way to cold . Fresh and salt .

    DIY Reporting…

Dan says trout fishing in NH ponds is “Amazing” right now! Just fished a fly fishing only pond and did very well. I caught and released 30 or so brookies from 12-15″. The only thing more colorful than the trees right now are the male brook trout dressed up in their spawning suit.

Try it. You wont be disappointed.

Try walking down to the bottom of the gorge. I’ve had good luck there before this time of year. Fish bead head hairs ear or prince nymphs. Decent rainbows in the big pool below the Gorge
