It has been a cold week in the Southeast corner of the state after this winter storm moved in. If you need a break from cabin fever or didn’t get that new fly rod you asked for under the tree, then The Fly Fishing Show will run from January 23 -25, 2015 at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset, NJ. They will have many exhibitors, pros, guides & fly-tiers displaying their talent. Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission staff will have a booth at the show to answer questions & share fishing stories. You can find out more about this event here.
If New Jersey is too far to commute to, The Fly Fishing Show will also be in Lancaster, PA from February 28 – March 1. Check their website for details on that event as well.

Fishing action has dropped off significantly with the arrival of cold weather. Catfish and American eels were still taking worms at several locations last week on the Schuylkill River including Norristown Riverfront Park and the Art Museum/Fairmount Dam area. Local rivers and streams are still ice free, so there are still fishing opportunities for the hardy few, but that will probably change soon with the recent cold snap. Sunnies are also providing a little light action in the shallows and around creek mouths. Otherwise winter season is in full swing and with it thoughts and dreams of warmer weather. Please keep in mind the new 2015 PA fishing license (at a $1.00 reduced price) is now available and in effect.

One angler braving the cold last week caught a nice 21” Rainbow Trout from the Lower Sweet Arrow Lake Creek.
