Massachusetts Offshore Report
A ton of bluefin are off Chatham said Captain Eric Stewart at The Hook Up in Orleans, MA. The fish are a mix of sizes from 30-inchers to 500-pounders. Captain Rich Haight had a 490-pounder this week on a black squid bar.
Giant tuna have been showing at Peaked Hill Bar, and at least one, a 550-pounder, was taken on Wednesday.
New York & New Jersey Offshore Report
Kevin from Star Island Marina said the tuna fishing was outrageous this past week with the largest bigeye weighing in at 265 pounds and plenty of other quality fish hitting the docks.
Dave Arbeitman at The Reel Seat in Brielle, NJ said fishermen are eager to get back out to the canyons to the bigeye bite that was happening last week.
Rich Wilkowski of the Jersey Hooker in Brick, NJ said that the tuna bite has been red hot form the Wilmington all the way north. Mostly yellow fin about the further north you get, the better shot you have at an eyeball, blue or longfin tuna. Rich agreed with me that this is a strong year for Dorado as well.
Mike Jung of Peace Token Bait & Tackle in Cape May Courthouse, NJ said that Wilmington Canyon was the hot spot with many yellow fins dominating the picture. There was talk of some white marlin banner days in the Baltimore but no confirmation. On the inshore ridges like the Sea Isle and the Elephants Trunk, it’s been all about trolling for dolphin, bonito and wahoo.
