Offshore Fishing Report 8-28-14

For the Massachusetts offshore set, east of Chatham seems to be heating up and The Canyons are still a good bet. The bigeye tuna has caught the attention of offshore anglers in New York and New Jersey as well.

Massachusetts & Cape Cod

East of Chatham seems to be heating up. Fish in the 45 to 65-inch range seem to be the norm, with multiple hookups per day being reported. Lots of life and boats have been reported at the Regal Sword.

The Canyons continue to be hot if you can get there, although Hurricane Cristobal might make that very difficult this weekend. Two reports from Fishtails Canyon this week included bigeye and yellowfin in numbers.

David at Westlake Marina in Montauk said the offshore shark bite is still hot for mako and thresher, and Bay Park Marina reported a decent offshore bite with yellowfins on chunks at night at the Hudson Canyon and a few mahi and longfins on the troll. Ben from Star Island reported anglers heading 60 to 100 miles out have been rewarded with bigeye and albacore.

New Jersey

Offshore, this is probably the best time of year for almost every deep water species. Tuna, marlin, sword , wahoo and dolphin are all in a feeding frenzy. Weather reports have been a little sketchy due to the storm but last word was the Lindenkohl and Baltimore Canyons were the place to be for white marlin and tuna.

In another report, Captain Gene Quigley of Shore Catch Guide Service had an incredible day of inshore yellowfin tuna fishing last week.
