Finally, the bluefin action has picked up east of the Cape. A decent bigeye and yellowfin bite has been reported at the canyons as well.

New England

Finally, the bluefin action picked up east of the Cape. Dan at The Hook Up in Orleans, MA reported good fishing at the BC Buoy and the Sword this week. The fish have been a mix of sizes from 40 inches to 73 inches or more. Trolling has been the best bet.

Some 500- to 800-pound giants are feeding over Stellwagen Bank, and a few giants are moving into Cape Cod Bay. Harpoon boats stuck a couple giants off the east end of the Canal this week, so Canal fishermen should keep their eye out for some massive explosions in the Ditch this coming week, especially if those Buzzards Bay bluefish make a run through the canal.

Out at the Canyons, bigeye and yellowfin were reported at West Atlantis on Monday. With a north wind at 15-20 knots forecasted for this weekend, it might be tough to get out there.

New York and New Jersey

Joe from Trophy Tackle in West Babylon, NY said the offshore fishing was pretty consistent with last week. He heard reports of bigeye and yellowfin out at the Hudson Canyon and Bluefin at Chicken Canyon.

Eric at The Reel Seat in Brielle, NJ told us the Hudson Canyon is producing yellowfin and bigeye tuna. The Little Italy is giving up some good catches of bluefin and mahi mahi as well. Capt. Ken from the Big Kid also said mahi mahi and bluefin tuna are extremely cooperative. There is a lot of action inside the 30 mile zone.
