Northern New Jersey Fishing Report 8-14-14

Atlantic Highlands

Jay from Julian’s said the fluke fishing is great in Raritan Bay. Also plenty of Croakers & Porgies to be caught around the piers.  Blues and Snapper Blues are also plentiful. Snapper Poppers have been working best for the small blues.

Capt Jim on the Bingo Sport Fishing said he is still catching some impressive Fluke offshore Sea Bass and Ling are also present with good numbers being caught. Call 732-948-7735.

Al on the Sea Tiger states that some nice Fluke were taken this week. Garrett Wood weighed a 9.6-pounder and Greg Gibbs had a 6.9-pounder. Bucktails and Gulp are accounting for some nice size fish.

According to the crew at True World Tackle, fluke fishing from the bay to New York harbor is great. There are also plenty of Blues and Croakers being caught in the same area as the fluke.

Belmar

Pete at Parker Pete’s stated Fluke fishing is on fire, with limits of fish up to 8 pounds. Bucktail & Gulp combo is hot bait.

Capt. Steve from Skylarker Sportfishing said the fluke fishing remains good and some really good size fish are being caught. Blues, Bonito and Mackerel fishing is getting really good. Jigging seems to be the way to go.

Chris on the Big Mohawk said Fluke fishing is great with many fish between 5 and 8 pounds being caught. Bucktail and Gulp combos are producing limited catches. The Mohawk is sailing everyday 7am-3pm and Sundays 6am-2pm.

Capt. Al of the Miss Belmar Princess said bluefish and Bonito fishing has been good. He sails 1:30pm – 6:00pm. Karen from the Royal Miss Belmar said that Blues, Bonito and False Albacore are being caught daily. The Royal Miss Belmar is sailing everyday 7:30am – 2:30pm.

Rich of the Golden Eagle reports plenty of Fluke are being caught with squid and spearing. Mahi Mahi have surprised some anglers by taking rigs meant for fluke.

Capt. Tom from the Nan Sea J said that fishing for Fluke and Sea Bass has greatly improved. He also stated that some real nice sized Ling are also being caught.

Capt. Ron on the Capt Cal II reports that the Fluke fishing is hot with fishing being taken up to 9 pounds.  Fishing for Sea Bass and Ling has been good with an occasional Cod mixed in.

Bound Brook

Branden from Efinger’s said he the size and numbers of fluke being caught is increasing weekly. Fishing for Blues is also getting better each day with some nice sized fish mixed in.

Bradley Beach

Mark at The Bait Shop said the Fluke fishing is good with cocktail blues providing some variety. He states fresh bait such as spearing, bunker and snappers are scoring big.

Brielle

Dave at The Reel Seat told us the Lindenkohl is producing Yellowfin, White Marlin and Wahoo. The Hudson Canyon fishing is good for Longfin and Big Eye Tuna. Now is the time to get there and score.

Capt. Ken from the Big Kid said he had a great week with Yellow Fin chunking offshore. Fluke and Mahi Mahi are also producing with some good numbers being reported.

Hazlet

Phil at The Tackle Box reports large number of Fluke being caught up to 8 pounds being caught. Raritan Bay and New York Harbor are producing the largest fish. Porgy fishing is also doing well with bits of clam or squid.

Keyport

Joe at Joey’s Bait & Tackle reports Fluke fishing can’t get much better, and the river and bay are producing some huge catches. Snapper Blues are also abundant in the River.

Chris from the Keyport Basin said he had some great weigh ins of Fluke this week – 7yr old Brian McCartin caught a 6.75-pound Bill Gillespie weighed a 8-pounder  Gary Shereyka had a 4.7 pounder and Brian Shereyka caught two weighing 6.5 and 5.53 pounds.

Lake Hopatcong

Lou from Dow’s Bait & Tackle reports hybrid stripers are biting well on trolling plugs. Many Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass being caught as well, especially in the coves.

Laurence Harbor

Joe from Tackle US posted the winners of the Fluke Tournament, Congratulations to the winners with their three-fish totals – 1st Place goes to Little Texas with 26.2 pounds, 2nd Place goes to Slaco with 23.50 pounds, and 3rd Place goes to Truly Blessed with 22.55 pounds.

Robbinsville

Rob at Harry’s Adventure said Fluke fishing is outstanding! Gulp is producing some really nice fish.

Sea Bright

Jim at Giglio’s tells us that the Fluke fishing is hot in the river and bay. Some great catches are being taken and some bluefish are mixing in.
